The Maltese Falcon

SETTING: 1941 San Fransisco, California.

RATING: Unrated. Crime, Mystery, Noir

PLOT: A private detective takes on a case that involves him with three eccentric criminals, a gorgeous liar, and their quest for a priceless statuette.

QUOTES:

SAM SPADE:  When you're slapped, you'll take it and like it.

Joel Cairo: You always have a very smooth explanation...
Sam Spade: What do you want me to do, learn to stutter?

THOUGHTS:  What is there to say about a classic? Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade, I highly doubt there would have been any other actor to portray this character as efficiently. As actors to their characters each brought soul to the life of each. But then again I am Into the black n white noir films, (thank you Paul).

SYNOPSIS: it's was a dark and stormy night.....O.K. it wasn't. The night started out with Sam Spade's partner tailing a man and winding up dead for his efforts. Sam didn't much like his partner Miles but when a 10 walks through your door asking for assistance what do you do? Miss Wanderly/O'Shaughnessy has found herself in quite the precarious position. All over a black statuette of a Falcon? Brides offered, threats given, Hell even slaps across the face abound! one things for sure Sam gets the Falcon, the girl and kills the bad guy. Bogart rules

THEIR RATING: Reelviews (
James Berardinelli) gave this film 4 of 5. "The Maltese Falcon is among the most important and influential movies to emerge from the Hollywood system - as significant in some ways as its contemporary, Citizen Kane. In addition to providing the cinema with a new kind of private investigator (move over, Nick and Nora Charles)"

MY RATING: 5 OF 5, being the very first of many films to portray the P.I. as a true tough guy, who is quite rough around the edges, this film did what another rendition of the Maltese Falcon could not. excite audiences. Bogart playing the quintisential ex-cop, there would have been none better. Mary Astor played the role of O'Shaughnessy well. and then of course there is the veritable henchman Joe Cairo played by none other than Peter Lorre, who better to be the bad guy! definative watch, for those that love the realm of noir, this best be in your library of films.

Night of the Living Dead

SETTING: A farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania.

RATING: UNRATED, HORROR, MYSTERY

PLOT:Eastern seaboard panic ensues when the dead return to life. thought to be from radiation shrouded satellite that had fallen from space. A small group of people hide out in a farmhouse to wait out the night.

QUOTES:Field Reporter: Chief, if I were surrounded by eight or ten of these things, would I stand a chance with them?
Sheriff McClelland: Well, there's no problem. If you have a gun, shoot 'em in the head. That's a sure way to kill 'em. If you don't, get yourself a club or a torch. Beat 'em or burn 'em. They go up pretty easy.

THOUGHTS: Well what can we say about an iconic Zombie Flick! let us start with the fact that protagonist is a handsome fella of African descent. very Avant-Garde considering that the Civil rights movements were running wild and the portrayal of Ben was a very strong willed and boisterous individual. LOVED IT! With that, the gore in the film was a bit racy for the "mainstream" film goer of the day. all in all WAY to much good to say about the film. a must see for those who love the zombie, but those who loved to be scared might not get the kick they are looking for but well worth the watch.

SYNOPSIS: Siblings Johnny and Barbra are traveled to a rural cemetery, where they visit their father's grave. They are approached by a pale-faced man who stumbles toward them and attacks Barbra. Johnny pulls the man off of Barbra and struggles with him, but is killed after tripping and hitting his head violently on the edge of a gravestone. The man then pursues Barbra back to the car, but Barbra cannot start it because the keys are in Johnny's pocket. She takes the car out of gear and it begins to drift away on its own, but she accidentally steers it into a tree. She abandons the car and runs down a roadway to a nearby farmhouse, with the man still pursuing her. She discovers the house seemingly deserted, and the phone is out of order. Her attacker stumbles around the outside of the house looking for her, and is joined by several others. They all seem to be in a kind of trance, behaving in an feverish way. Exploring the house further, Barbra makes a gruesome find at the top of the stairs (but your gonna have to watch the movie.)
In a panic and attempting to flee the house, Barbra is intercepted by Ben, who arrives in a pickup truck and attacks the mysterious figures with a tire iron. Barbra is further driven into hysteria when she sees Ben violently smashing the skulls of the strange men who keep trying to get into the house. Ben urges her into action and the two of them begin boarding up the doors and windows from the inside with dismantled furniture and scraps of wood. They awkwardly trade their stories; Ben seems to be a drifter who was passing through the area when suddenly a wave of unexplained violence began unfolding. He tells Barbra about a scene of mayhem that he encountered at a diner, and Barbra tells him about the incident with Johnny in the cemetery. Barbra becomes hysterical and wants to go out after Johnny.
Ben goes upstairs and finds a rifle and a radio as Barbra lies incapacitated on a couch in the living room listening to the radio report. Emergency broadcasters tell stories of widespread violence and mayhem being committed by people who seem to be in a trance. Suddenly, Barbra is startled when the cellar door opens and people emerge from the basement. Ben is attracted by her screams and they confront the newcomers. An older man introduces himself as Harry Cooper, and the younger man is named Tom. Harry says that he has his wife, Helen, and his daughter, Karen, in the basement as well. Karen has been hurt and cannot be moved. Tom has a girlfriend named Judy, also in the cellar hiding.
Radio reports explain that an epidemic of mass murder is sweeping across the eastern seaboard of the United States. Later, Ben discovers a television and the emergency broadcaster reveals that the murderers are recently dead human beings who have returned to life and who are consuming their victims' flesh. Experts including scientists and military generals are not sure of the cause of the reanimation, but one scientist is certain that it is the result of radiation emanating from a Venus space probe that exploded in the Earth's atmosphere. The report instructs that a gunshot or heavy blow to the head will stop the "ghouls" and that posses of armed men are patrolling the countryside to restore order. And I ain't gonna say anymore, watch the film.

THEIR RATING: BBCi gave this film 5 of 5 stars, "This lack of a cosy conclusion and the unpredictable nature of this film shook up horror film-making, and allowed fresh talent to explore a whole new chilling level of terror."

MY RATING:5 of 5, for me this film really shook up alot of stereotypes of the day. I shant go into to much detail but it was great! the ending by far was the highlight of the show. the gore in days gone past really didn't gety to vivid, but this movie really brought it to your face. love horror? you will love this film.

Ong Bak

SETTING:  Modern day Thailand.

RATING: R, action, adventure, crime.

PLOT: When the head of a statue sacred to a village is stolen, a young martial artist goes to the big city and finds himself taking on the underworld to retrieve it.

QUOTES: None appropriate.
THOUGHTS:  I read a review on a movie that I have reviewed by the name of Chocolate. Chocolate is another Thai martial arts movie by the same company. The review stated that Ong Bak was a much better film than Chocolate. Let me start by saying this... THEY  ARE NOT THE SAME TYPE OF MOVIE!!
Yes Ong Bak has better martial arts and sequences, but that does not deter from Chocolate. watch them both you will understand. Anyway, back to Ong Bak.
Tony Jaa plays the lead character Ting. And let me say, this boy makes Jackie Chan look like the Karate Kid before Mr. Miyagi gets a hold of him. The moves that he pulls off are nothing short of impossible.

SYNOPSIS: When the head of Ong-Bak, the sacred Buddha of a poor village is stolen, the population is plunged into misery. The Buddha was the focal point of an anniversary vigil believed to bring rain to the drought-stricken area. Young Ting is selected by the villagers to travel to Bangkok and rescue the relic in time for their ceremony. Ting has an affinity with the statue as he was left on the temple steps as a baby and raised by monks. The young Ting was taught Muay Thai by the monks, yet they  forbade him to use it in combat. But now he is forced to delve into a seedy underworld and try to avoid temptation of fighting for money.

THEIR RATING: 3 OUT OF 5 "Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior," the first Thai film to break through in the martial arts market. Having seen documentaries showing how stunt men are "flown" from wires that are eliminated in post-production, having seen entire action sequences made on computers, I sat through the movie impressed at how real the action sequences seemed. Then I went to the Web site, and discovered that they were real.

MY RATING: 5 OUT OF 5. DAMN!! really real true no strings attached action sequences!! who would not think this film is the shit! own it!! watch it!! share it with others!! The version i watched had patchy subs but I got the idea all too well. Gritty camera footage, and phenominal action packed ass kickery!!

Yojimbo ( The Bodyguard)

SETTING: 1860 Japan, an obscure village.

RATING: Unrated, action, crime, Drama

PLOT: A crafty Ronin comes to a town divided by two criminal gangs and decides to play them against each other to free the town.

QUOTES: Sanjuro: I'll get paid for killing, and this town is full of people who deserve to die.

Hansuke: What happened? Why so glum? Your business should be booming.
The Cooper: No. When the fighting gets this bad, they don't bother with coffins.

THOUGHTS: If you have ever seen A Fistful of Dollars with Clint Eastwood, or Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis, You will enjoy this film, this is the original!! Akira Kurosawa has done it again! Last Man Standing was a complete remake to the core, (this film, without all the blood and swearing.) What a magnificent film! Paul you have got to see this!! As I have stated before I have an affinity for black and whites and for Oriental films. when the two genres are combined magic happens. Cheers Mr. Kurosawa I salute you for your genius once again!

SYNOPSIS: Sanjuro, a wandering samurai enters a rural town in nineteenth century Japan. After learning from the innkeeper that the town is divided between two rival gangsters, he plays one side against the other. His efforts are complicated by the arrival of the gunslinger Unosuke, the son of one of the gangsters. Unosuke has Sanjuro beaten after he reunites an abducted woman with her husband and son, then massacres his father's opponents. During the slaughter, the samurai escapes with the help of the innkeeper; but while recuperating at a nearby temple, he learns of innkeeper's abduction by Unosuke, and returns to the town to confront him.

THEIR RATING: Filmsgraded.com (Brian Koller) 4 out of 5. Pros: direction, cinematography, characters
Cons: Mifune the world's greatest swordsman, comic and dramatic mix doesn't always work.
"The success of Yojimbo bred imitations in the west. The first was A Fistful of Dollars (1964), the initial entry in Clint Eastwood's western trilogy with Italian director Sergio Leone. Less notable was Last Man Standing (1996), the remake starring Bruce Willis."

MY RATING: 5 OUT OF 5. I have loved this storyline for many years. Finally to see the O.G. screenplay was superb! the casting is as you would expect. The cinematography was quite the classic Kurosawa. for Kurosawa to bring the old west to Japan was ingenious. It is a western film pretending to be a Japanese film pretending to be a western! Lovely!!

Zulu

SETTING: Natal, Africa. Rorke's Drift

RATING: Unrated, action, adventure, drama

PLOT: The British still have this idea that they can just waltz into a country and squat. a few thousand African warriors might have some thing to say about that.

QUOTES:
Lieutenant John Chard: Mr. Bourne, there should be 12 more men working on this redoubt.
Color Sgt. Bourne: They're very tired, sir.
[Chard whirls around]
Lieutenant John Chard: I don't give a damn! And I want this wall nine feet high, firing steps on the inside. Form details to clear away the Zulu bodies, rebuild the south rampart, keep 'em moving! Do you understand?
Color Sgt. Bourne: Yes sir... very good, sir.

THOUGHTS: I gotta say this film is fantastic! The first time I saw this film I was no more than 8 years old, It scared the shit out of me. More so the tribe singing and dancing their Zulu charge songs than the actual battle scenes. The portrayal of the British pomp is almost to ridiculous to bear, "oh, my old chap, we are British. Nobody kills British soldiers without the queens permission." type attitude. Too funny. All in all a wonderful flick.

SYNOPSIS:On the January 22nd 1879 the British Army suffered one of its worst defeats in the Empire's history. When Zulu forces massacred 1,500 British troops at Isandlhwana, the Zulu force, numbering in excess of 4000 warriors, advanced on a British hospital and supply dump guarded by 139 Welsh infantrymen. The film concentrates on this bloody 12 hour battle during which the British force, under their commander from the Royal Engineers, who happened to be in the area building a bridge, won 11 Victoria Crosses.

CONCLUSION: A true and utter classic! All should see this film if you have an interest in history. A definitive keeper, along with Zulu Dawn. Both films show three sides to this tale. One being the might and naivety of the British forces, another the compassion for the native people and third shows the strength and determination of a warrior people bent on the "peaceful" life that they have known.

THEIR RATING: Brian koller from Epinions.com, 4 out of 5: Director Cy Endfield had for years wanted to make a film about the battle for Rorke's Drift, where some 120 British soldiers held off thousands of attacking Zulu warriors in 1879. After the battle, eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded, at the time the most ever for a single battle. The battle became the stuff of legend in England, inspiring several generations until the aftershocks of World War II put an end to 'Rule Britannia'.

MY RATING: 4 OUT OF 5: The Cinematography is great. The portrayal of the Zulus is a little harsh, but who is to say that it might not be true. If you were to fight for your livelihood would you not do the same? Michael Caine in his first main character role was superb. the supporting crew added alot of flavor. Stanley Baker was, of all the characters, my favorite. His character took into consideration all that needed to be done. Not only trying to save his fellow man but had a respect for the Zulus only a real commander would have for his foe. Watch it!

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

SETTING: Oh Canada! Apparently in Winter? Snow all around, the wearing of coats.

RATNG:PG-13, ADVENTURE, COMEDY, FANTASY

PLOT: Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart.

QUOTES:
Wallace Wells: If you want something bad, you have to fight for it. Step up your game, Scott. Break out the L-word.
Scott Pilgrim: Lesbian?
Wallace Wells: The other L-word.
Scott Pilgrim: ...Lesbians?

Scott Pilgrim: Wait! We're fighting over Ramona?
Matthew Patel: Didn't you get my email explaining the situation?
Scott Pilgrim: I skimmed it.
Wallace Wells: [shaking head] Mm-mm.
Matthew Patel: You will pay for your insolence!

THOUGHTS: To tell you the truth I quite enjoyed this film. You must realize that the film IS based on a comic book and also been made into a video game for the Playstation and the XBOX 360. SO the interesting way the film is shot was on purpose. Too many time people watch a show that is "out of the norm" and they won't accept the fact that someone has VISION. don't discount this film because of the "cheesy" video game effects or the "lame" special effects.
In all actuality the storyline is not that far off from reality. Oh and as a side note, this is Michael Cera's first film where he doesn't play a total pussy!

SYNOPSIS:Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is an unemployed 23-year-old bass guitarist in an up-and-coming garage rock band who is dating a cute 17-year-old high school girl, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). He is having fun in life and rolling along at a nice even tempo until one day Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) roller-blades into his life. Ramona moved to Toronto from New York City to find peace and quiet and leave her past behind. No one knows what her past is, but Scott will find out very soon as he tries to make Ramona his new girlfriend. Before Scott can begin dating Ramona, he must prove himself by defeating the league of her seven evil exes who controls her love life. They will do anything to get rid of and destroy any new boyfriend Ramona may consider. If Scott wants to find true love with Ramona, he must defeat all seven, before the game is over.

CONCLUSION: I find it quite odd that the studio picked Michael Cera for the lead. not to say it didn't work, on the contrary, it did. Mary was a superb pick for the role of Ramona. All in all good to the last drop. each actor played their part well. this is an owner film especially those that grew up with a video game controller glued to their hands, (ME!).

THEIR RATING:E-FILM CRITIC.COM (Rob Gonsalves):5 OUT OF 5,It’s too early to declare "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" my favorite movie of the year, but it may well be the most fun movie I’ll see in 2010.
And I’m not even that big a fan of the source material, Bryan Lee O’Malley’s manga-flavored six-volume series of graphic novels. The comics are fine, often charming, a bit glib. The movie, directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), is something else again, a glorious mutant built out of disreputable pop culture — old-school videogames, indie semi-punk rock, cheesy action flicks, melodramatic anime. It’s everything your parents told you was a waste of time when you were a teenager, and unless you’ve turned into them, you should find it an exhilarating fantasia on a serious theme, or at least one that feels serious when you’re young.

MY RATING: 4 OUT OF 5, I love the premise of the movie! truly draws me back to the bays of playing Zelda until all hours of the night. Also wells up the nostalgia of girlfriends of the past, (Sorry honey, I still love you with all my heart!). It is more of the excitement of the dating scene from days gone by. The reason for the 4 and not the 5 is I still have a hard time with Cera. I should probably give the guy more credit but Superbad and Year One, in my eyes casts this man as a spineless turd, I guess in some aspects this film does also. I do have to say in his defense, he did play the part of an ass-kicker quite well.

Bloodrayne 2: Deliverance

SETTING: The Wild Wild West

RATING: R, Action, fantasy, western

PLOT: ummm I don't know if there is a plot, but we'll try. Rayne, the half-human/half-vampire warrior, ventures to America's 1880's Wild West to stop the vampired Billy the Kid and his posse of vampire cowboys.

QUOTES:
Billy the Kid: Tell me Mr.
[reads card]
Billy the Kid: Pyles, is writing stories your reason to live?
Newton Pyles: ...Yes!
Billy the Kid: Then bare witness the greatest story ever foretold!

Rayne: [to Billy the Kid] Big speech... small guns... you tryin' to compensate for somethin'?

THOUGHTS: Billy the kid as a vampire!! Pat Garret as a do-gooder!! both in a vampire movie!!! A vampire movie set in the old west!! OH DEAR LORD A VAMPIRE MOVIE SET IN THE OLD WEST!! What more can I say.

SYNOPSIS:It's a hundred years later, and the dhampir Rayne has arrived in the town of Deliverance, Montana where a group of vampire cowboys have emerged. Led by Billy the Kid, hell-bent on creating is own kingdom, he slaughters townspeople and rounds up children. He spares the life of Chicago Chronicle reported Newton Pyles. Rayne aligns herself with Pat Garret, a member of the long-thought-dead Brimstone society, a dishonest preacher, and a low life named Franson, to stop Billy the Kid and show the world how the West was really won.

CONCLUSION: Well I watched the first film so it seemed logical to watch the second. Um wasted portions of life cannot be regained. In so I have wasted my time as to save yours. If the studio decides to have a sequel movie go straight to video 9 out of 10 times they probably shouldn't even make the film. This is one such case. DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM!! AND A THIRD FILM IN THE WORKS SET DURING THE THIRD REICH!!! LORD HELP US ALL!! yeah I'll watch it for the completion of the trilogy. What an idiot I am.

THEIR RATING: VERDICT: 4/10
Probably about as good as any sequel to a flop based on a computer game has any right to be.

MY RATING: 0 OUT OF 5, The only saving grace of this film......Natassia Malthe, she is very beautiful. Pathetic acting all around. Shite Screenplay, DAMN to much negative to say about this film!!

Taxi Driver

SETTING: Late 70's early 80's New York

RATING: R, DRAMA, THRILLER

PLOT: A mentally unstable Vietnam war veteran works as nighttime taxi driver in a city whose perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his urge to violently lash out.

QUOTES: I Must tell you before we go on this film has a TON! of memorable lines.
Travis Bickle: [Travis is trying his guns on the mirror] Huh? Huh?
[Draws]
Travis Bickle: Faster than you, fucking son of a... Saw you coming you fucking... shitheel.
[Reholsters]
Travis Bickle: I'm standing here; you make the move. You make the move. It's your move...
[Draws]
Travis Bickle: Don't try it you fuck.
[Reholsters]
Travis Bickle: You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talking... you talking to me? Well I'm the only one here. Who the fuck do you think you're talking to? Oh yeah? OK.
[Draws]

THOUGHTS: WOW! for being one of the classic films I thought it would be.......better. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I expected the film to move a little faster. Do not get me wrong Robert De Nero was fantastic, not to mention Jody Foster with Harvey Keitel as her pimp. This film was had an air about it that help move it along but it seemed there was just too much drama that did not add to much as far as moving the storyline along. That said the climax of the film is where it's at! The action portrayed is amazing! I am not a lover of gore mind you. It was just amazing how it was placed on film.

SYNOPSIS: Vietnam vet Travis Bickle, a loner in the mean streets of New York City, slipping slowly into isolation and violent misanthropy. In solving his insomnia by driving a yellow cab on the night shift, he grows increasingly disgusted by the low-lifes that hang out at night: "Someday a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets." His touching attempts to woo Betsy, a Senator's campaign worker, turn sour when he takes her to a porn movie on a date. He even fails in his attempt to persuade child prostitute Iris to desert her pimp and return to her parents and school. Driven to the edge by powerlessness, he buys four handguns and sets out to "clean up the streets of New York."

CONCLUSION: Well thought out film, slow to get going but once it does watch out!! definitely a watcher but not quite an owner. The realistic portrayal of the shoot out was film amazingly. Showing what I would guess as true human reaction. very well done, with the addition of top name actor and actresses.

THEIR RATING:CHICAGO SUN TIMES (Ebert): 4 out of 5 "Taxi Driver" shouldn't be taken as a New York film; it's not about a city but about the weathers of a man's soul, and out of all New York he selects just those elements that feed and reinforce his obsessions.

MY RATING: 4 OUT OF 5: The use of the actors of the day were astounding. The cinematography was grainy yet subtle. Travis' struggle is not far fetched which added to the realism of the film. Yes watch this film at least once in your life.

28 Weeks Later

SETTING: Basically post-apocalyptic Great Britain

RATING:  R

PLOT: Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. But not everything goes to plan.

QUOTES: Scarlet: [upon examining Andy's eyes] Green and brown. Interesting iris variation. It's usually hereditary. Do one of your parents have the same?
Andy: My mother, she did.
Scarlet: How old are you, Andy?
Andy: Twelve.
Scarlet: I think that makes you the youngest person in the entire country. Well, your blood pressure is A-OK and you're negative on any serious disease or afflictions. I think you're okay to come in. Welcome back to Britain.

THOUGHTS: Well it is rare to say, but I find myself enjoying the sequel more than the original. Yeah I went there. Finally more ZOMBIES!! But.... I was expecting the human element. With that in mind I am guessing this is why I enjoyed this film more.

SYNOPSIS: In the countryside nearby London, Don, his wife Alice and a few survivors live hidden in a farmhouse. When infected people break in the house, Don panics and does not help his wife to escape, running away and leaving Alice trapped inside the room. Twenty eight weeks after the outbreak that annihilated the population of Great Britain, London is considered safe and the British survivors return under the coordination of the American Army, that keeps the city under permanent surveillance. The teenager Tammy and her younger brother Andy travel back from Spain to live with their father Don in London. They miss their mother and decide to escape to their old house to retrieve pictures and some other personal belongings. However, they find Alice surprisingly alive and the Army brings her to the base. After some blood tests, the biologist Scarlet discovers that Alice is a carrier of the lethal virus and somehow has immunity to it. Meanwhile, Don sneaks through the facility to say how sorry he is to Alice, who forgives him. When he kisses her, he is immediately contaminated, spreading a new epidemic.
Realizing that Andy and Alice shared a genetic quirk that might make him immune to the virus's effects, Scarlet rescues Tammy and Andy. The Army has moved quickly to contain the infection, herding the residents of the Green Zone into safe rooms. Andy is separated from Tammy and Scarlet and placed in a different room with other residents.
Doyle (Jeremy Renner), who abandoned his post when he could not bring himself to kill Andy. He tells them that the Army will kill them to unless they can escape the city.He leads the survivors through the streets. Unbeknownst to them, Don is following. Doyle makes contact with a friendly helicopter pilot, Flynn (Harold Perrineau), who tells them to get out of the Green Zone as soon as possible, as the area is to be firebombed.

The four of them dodge the infected. Soldiers are killing the infected with poison gas and flamethrowers. Scarlet and Doyle know the Army will assume they are infected and kill them all, too. Scarlet, Tammy and Andy get into a car. Scarlet pops the clutch while Doyle pushes the car, jump starting it. As they drive away, the soldiers incinerate Doyle. Avoiding helicopters, Scarlet drives the car into a subway station. They decide to follow the train tracks to Wembley. Because it is pitch dark, Scarlet uses the night-sight on Doyle's rifle to guide them, but they are separated when Tammy and Andy trip over corpses on the escalator. Tammy and Scarlet try to find Andy but suddenly Don appears and beats Scarlet to death with Doyle's rifle. He then pursues Andy, tackles him and bites him. Tammy shoots Don and saves Andy, who is immune like his mother, but is covered in infected blood. The children continue to Wembley Stadium and meet Flynn. He can't bring himself to shoot two children, so he flies them across the English Channel and out of Britain.

THEIR RATING: VIEWPOINTS rates this film 3 out of 5: When I saw 28 Days Later, which is prequel to this movie, I thought that it had a really interesting story that could have at least one, if not two, more movies made from it. 28 Weeks Later turned out to be really good. I mean really good.

MY RATING: 3 out of 5: better than the first but still just not an owner. the human element is touching, actually adding the family into this film help moved it along for me. The cinematics were as good as the first and the acting of the main characters was great.

28 Days Later

SETTING: Great Britain - Present

RATING: R

PLOT: A mysterious infection spread by the bite of a chimpanzee, spreads through all of London and soon infects the whole of the island.

QUOTE: Mark: A man walks into a bar with a giraffe. They both get pissed. The giraffe falls over. The man goes to leave and the bartender says, "Oi. You can't leave that lyin' there." And the man says, "No. It's not a lion. It's a giraffe."
[Jim doesn't respond]
Mark: Completely humorless.

[finding a crate of fresh apples in a pile of rotting produce]
Frank: Mmmmmm... Irradiated!

THOUGHTS: Well..... For being a zombie flick there weren't as many zombies as I had hoped. Although the film was more or less what humans would be like during such an tragedy. Not much different from the zombies themselves.

SYNOPSIS: Animal activists invade a laboratory with the intention of releasing chimpanzees that are undergoing experimentation, infected by a virus -a virus that causes rage and blood lust. The naive activists ignore the pleas of a scientist to keep the cages locked, with disastrous results. Twenty-eight days later, our protagonist, Jim, wakes up from a coma, alone, in an abandoned hospital. He begins to seek out anyone else to find London is deserted, apparently without a living soul. After finding a church, which had become inhabited by zombie like humans intent on his, um death, he runs for his life. Selena and Mark rescue him from the horde and bring him up to date on the mass carnage and horror as all of London tore itself apart. This is a tale of survival and ultimately, heroics.

CONCLUSION: I would have to say, if you like zombie flicks go watch Night of the Living Dead or at the very least watch Zombieland. It just isn't the zombie flick you are expecting. an O.K. one time watch definitely NOT an owner.

THEIR RATING: 3 out of 5: "28 Days Later" is a tough, smart, ingenious movie that leads its characters into situations where everything depends on their (and our) understanding of human nature.

MY RATING: 3 out of 5 Cillian Murphy is great, Naomi Harris is realistic. the cinematography was gritty and done well.

Bloodrayne

SETTING:  Set during 18th century Romania.- UNRATED

PLOT: A Dhampir (half human- half vampire) named Rayne must help save mankind by killing her Vampiric father.

QUOTES: Katarin: Your form is weak, lacking passion.
Rayne: It was part of my plan. I am tiring you out.
Katarin: Your plan is lacking passion as well.

THOUGHTS: I am a HUGE fan of fantasy, not the Harry Potter type. That's just as bad as the Twilight Series. utterly horrible. ANYWAY, Bloodrayne is decent yet it seems that fantasy is a genre best left to the books and the imagination. Apparently there is no fantasy movie that really grips what the imagination can create. Bloodrayne unfortunately does not hit the mark either, it does have it's moments but the sword fights are lack luster, the acting is......A jagged little pill. Some of the actors are recognizable....which helps, just not enough to save the film.

SYNOPSIS: In the Eighteenth Century, Rayne is the half-human half-vampire Dhampir and the lead attraction in a carnival's freak-show in Romania. When she escapes, she meets a fortuneteller that tells that her mother was raped by the king of the vampires Kagan and she decides to destroy her father. In her journey for revenge, she meets Vladimir and Sebastian, the leaders of the fortress of vampire hunters Brimstone, and she joins their society. She seeks for powerful talismans to defeat Kagan, while the skilled warriors Vladimir and Sebastian train her to face the forces of Kagan and her human side falls in love with Sebastian.

CONCLUSION: Bloodrayne is a film that touches on the excitement of the fantasy realm. It just needs alot of help. A possible ownable film, watched every now and then, just to satiate the fantasy appetite.

RATING: Illustrated journal of Cinematic Division: BloodRayne: 7 out of 10: Uwe Boll is not the next Ed Wood, Not even close.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest

SETTING: Mental institution, supposedly in Oregon.

RATED: R, DRAMA

QUOTES: McMurphy: Is that crazy enough for ya'? Want me to take a shit on the floor?

Young Psychiatrist: Have you ever heard of the old saying "a rolling stone gathers no moss?"
McMurphy: Yeah.
Young Psychiatrist: Does that mean something to you?
McMurphy: Uh... It's the same as "don't wash your dirty underwear in public."
Young Psychiatrist: I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
McMurphy: [smiling] I'm smarter than him, ain't I?
[laughs]
McMurphy: Well, that sort of has always meant, is, uh, it's hard for something to grow on something that's moving.

THOUGHTS: Well it has been quite a few years since I first heard of this film and just haven't gotten around to seeing  it. Now I have, what was I thinking to wait this long? Jack undoubtedly makes the part of McMurphy. The cast was utterly brilliant! this iconic film stars none other than: Christopher Lloyd, Danny DeVito, Brad Dourif, Anjelica Huston, Scatman Crothers, Louise Fletcher and of course Jack Nicholson.

SYNOPSIS: McMurphy, a man with several assault convictions to his name, finds himself in jail once again. This time, the charge is statutory rape when it turns out that his girlfriend had lied about being eighteen, and was, in fact, fifteen (or, as McMurphy puts it, "fifteen going on thirty-five"). Rather than spend his time in jail, he convinces the guards that he's crazy enough to need psychiatric care and is sent to a hospital. He fits in frighteningly well, and his different point of view actually begins to cause some of the patients to progress. Nurse Ratched becomes his personal cross to bear as his resistance to the hospital routine gets on her nerves.

CONCLUSION: This film, (if one cares) is riddled with off color words, but in my eyes it only adds to the attempt at reality. McMurphy seemingly the Gemini if you will, to our "civilized" side, creates a feeling of freedom from the "norm." A movie truly for the ages. A must see for those who like the "reality" of film.

MY RATING: 4 out of 5 for character creativity from the cast, screenplay and the use of in your face reality of the Mental Institutions of the 50's and 60's.

FILM FREAK CENTRAL: 4 out of 4, Philosophically sound, motivational, inspirational, Czech director Milos Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of a small number of Best Picture winners to actually deserve the statuette.

Chinatown

SETTING: 1937 Los Angeles

PLOT: Jake Gittes is a P.I. who has been hired by a woman to find out where he spends his late nights. Jake is drawn into corruption and murder.

RATING: R, DRAMA, MYSTERY,

QUOTES: [first lines]
-Jake Gittes: All right, Curly. Enoughs enough. You can't eat the Venetian blinds. I just had them installed on Wednesday.

-Jake Gittes: Hello, Claude. Where'd you get the midget?

-[last lines]
Walsh: Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown.

THOUGHTS: Nicholson in the character of Jake Gittes was prophetic. In my opinion there probably would have been no one better for the part. Mrs Mulwray played by Faye Dunaway was a good choice, I personally would liked to see someone who has a little more of a dramatic side to them, say Sophia Loren? The plot was not to much of a thriller but as mystery goes it was amiable. the reoccurring theme of the water issue in the L.A. valley is quite down to earth and believable.

SYNOPSIS: JJ 'Jake' Gittes is a private detective who seems to specialize in matrimonial cases. He is hired by Evelyn Mulwray when she suspects her husband Hollis, builder of the city's water supply system, of having an affair. Gittes does what he does best and photographs him with a young girl but in the ensuing scandal, it seems he was hired by an impersonator and not the real Mrs. Mulwray. When Mr. Mulwray is found dead, Jake is plunged into a complex web of deceit involving murder, incest and municipal corruption all related to the city's water supply.

CONCLUSION: I must say Roman Polanski did quite a good job here keeping everything grey, everyone had a dark side to them. Not necessarily one my favorites, but Jack sure makes the show. This film is a great one time watcher, with a possible second viewing with friends. Not quite a library must have. For comparison try the Black Dahlia, it was a little more intense, albeit gory.

MY RATING: 3 out of 5, Jack as mentioned above is great! Faye is good. the plot was not lackluster yet came about slowly.

CHICAGO SUN TIMES (EBERT): 4 out of 5, Roman Polanski's "Chinatown" is not only a great entertainment, but something more, something I would have thought almost impossible: It's a 1940s private-eye movie that doesn't depend on nostalgia or camp for its effect, but works because of the enduring strength of the genre itself.

Seven Samurai

SETTING: the year is 1586, a quaint village in hills of Japan.

RATING: UNRATED, ACTION, DRAMA,ADVENTURE.

PLOT: A small Japanese village is exhausted from bandit raids. The leaders of the village decide to hire samurai to help protect the village as more raiders decide to attack.

QUOTE:Gisaku: What's the use of worrying about your beard when your head's about to be taken?

THOUGHTS: In the words of a 15 year old valley girl..."O.M.G.!!!" MY 2 FAVES ROLLED INTO 1!!! black and white and Japanese film. Akira Kurosawa is the most kick-ass director of his day!!! this man can create a story like no other!! Up to this point there have been very few movies to capture so many firsts. here's the list:
slow motion for dramatic flair and the reluctant hero to name a couple - are seen for perhaps the first time. Other movies may have used them separately before, but Akira Kurosawa brought them all together. First use of a scene which is now commonplace in cinema: The approaching horde coming into view as they crest a hilltop, specifically when Kikuchiyo sees the mounted bandits approaching.
this film is the shit!! ALL HAIL Akira Kurosawa!!!

SYNOPSIS: In Sixteenth Century Japan, a poor village is frequently looted by armed bandits losing their crop of rice. The village "Grandpa" advises the villagers to hire Samurai to defend the village. Four farmers head to town to seek out their possible protectors, but they just can offer three meals of rice per day and lodging for the samurai. They succeed in hiring the veteran Kambei Shimada. He advises that they need six other samurai to protect the village. Kambei recruits the necessary five other samurai and a brave jester the Samurai lovingly name Kikuchiyo. Moving to the village, they receive a feared reception. Kambei plots a defense strategy and the samurai start training the farmers how to defend their lands and families for the battle that approaches.
The preparations for the defense of the village continue apace, including the construction of fortifications and the training of the farmers for battle. Katsushir, the youngest samurai, begins a love affair with Shino, the daughter of one of the villagers. Shino had been forced to masquerade as a boy by her father who hoped the deception would protect her from the supposedly lustful samurai warriors.
As the time for the raid approaches, two bandit scouts are killed, and one is captured and reveals the location of the bandit camp. Three of the samurai, along with a guide from the village, decide to carry out a pre-emptive strike. Many bandits are killed, but one of the samurai, Heihachi, is struck down by gunfire. When the bandits arrive in force soon after this raid, they are confounded by the fortifications put in place by the samurai, and several are killed attempting to scale the barricades or cross moats. However, the bandits have a superior number of trained fighters, and possess three muskets, and are thus able to hold their own.
Apart from defense, the initial strategy of the samurai is to allow the bandits to enter a gap in the fortifications one at a time through the use of a closing "wall" of spears, and to then kill the lone enemy. This is repeated several times with success, although more than one bandit manages to enter the village several times.
When morning breaks and the bandits make their attack, Kambei orders his forces to allow all 13 remaining bandits in at once. In the ensuing confrontation, most of the bandits are easily killed, but the leader takes refuge in a hut unseen. In what is portrayed as dishonorable act, he shoots Kyz in the back from the safety of the hut, killing him. A despondent Katsushir seeks to avenge his hero, but an enraged Kikuchiyo bravely (and blindly) charges ahead of him, only to be shot in the belly himself. Although mortally wounded, Kikuchiyo ensures he kills the bandit chief, finally proving his worth as a samurai, before dying. Dazed and exhausted, Kambei and Shichirji sadly observe "we've survived once again," while Katsushir wails over his fallen comrades. The battle is ultimately won for the villagers.
The three surviving samurai, Kambei, Katsushir, and Shichirji, are left to observe the villagers happily planting the next rice crop. The samurai reflect on the relationship between the warrior and farming classes: though they have won the battle for the farmers, they have lost their friends with little to show for it. "Again we are defeated," Kambei muses. "The farmers have won. Not us." This melancholic observation sheds new light on Kambei's statement at the beginning of the film that he had "never won a battle." This contrasts with the singing and joy of the villagers, whose figuratively life-sustaining work has prevailed over war and left all warriors as the defeated party.

CONCLUSION: I know the synopsis was a little long winded, but YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS FILM!!! DO NOT YET DIE WITHOUT THIS FILM EITHER IN YOUR COLLECTION OR UNDER YOUR BELT!! WATCH.....THIS.....FILM!!!!

My RATING: 5 out of 5. good Lord!! storyline, epic camera usage, characters, directors, writers, oh my!!
T.V. Guide rating:SEVEN SAMURAI 5 out of 5
Much imitated, still unsurpassed. By critical consensus, this is one of the best movies ever made

Chocolate

SETTING: The film takes place in many areas around Thailand.

RATING: R, ACTION.

PLOT: a young Thai female falls for a Japanese fella who is from the wrong side of the line. their evident love brings an autistic child into the world whose special gift will eventually help her mother raise money to fight her mothers cancer.

QUOTE: I don't know any Thai so.......... yeah ...um... no quotes....sorry.

THOUGHTS: I must let you in on a little secret... I am a huge fan of oriental film!! very few have I not liked. Everything from romance and drama to their versions of horror flicks! So this film has become one of my favorites.

SYNOPSIS: This film begins during a tense meeting between the Yakuza and the Thai mafia. No. 8's mistress Zin falls in love for Masashi from the Yakuza and becomes his lover. When No. 8 discovers their affair, he orders Masashi to return to Japan. 9 months later Zin delivers a baby girl named Zen, who after a doctor visit is diagnosed as autistic. Zen is raised watching the students of a martial arts school nearby and Kung Fu movies on television. Zen learns how to fighting styles just by watching, she can mimic the moves perfectly. When Zen becomes a teenager, her friend Moon uses her accurate reflexes to raise money to help pay for the treatment of cancer.
Moon finds a black book with people that owe money to Zin, and he decides to collect the loans with Zen at his side. When their meetings go south Zen is forced to fight in order to get the money out of them. This of course attracts the attention of No.8 who captures Moon to force a meeting with Zin resulting in the.......nah your gonna have to find out all by your lonesome....

CONCLUSION: This is a wonderful film that all should watch, especially if you have a passion for oriental films. The version that I watched had no subtitles and was spoken only in Thai. which is in my eyes isn't such a bad thing. Actions speak louder than words.

MY RATING: I give this film 4 out of 5. Zin learns fighting styles from 2 of the great martial art masters of our time. She watches and learns from Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films. The storyline is more than just kick ass, there is purpose and love from an autistic child.

CINEMA AUTOPSY RATING: 2 OUT OF 5 It is somewhat difficult to believe that Prachya Pinkaew, the director of the breathtaking Muay Thai martial-arts film Ong-bak, is also responsible for this very dodgy film about a girl whose autism somehow gives her special fighting skills.

The Losers

SETTING: well the nice thing about this movie is that every time the setting changes they use a cool computer- aided graphic to place the name of the area on the landscape. Mostly this film takes place in Bolivia and Miami, though it has a few other places that help drag the story along, (literally).

RATING: PG-13, ACTION, CRIME, ADVENTURE.

PLOT: Um... well.... if you have seen any action film in your life you have probably seen this film before. The story involves a special forces team secreted into the wilds of Bolivia. Their only objective is to eradicate an enemy of the State. Once the team decides to kill the mark their own way they have pretty much sealed their own fate with the C.I.A.. A classic DOUBLE CROSS!!!!
(how ingenious.)

QUOTE: Now, just to let you know Jensen is the funniest in the group so I have a few of them for you.
* Jensen: That's right bitches; I got a crossbow!

*Jensen: [women are looking at Jensen, who is undressed in an elevator] So... you, uh, ladies liking the angle of the dangle?

*Jensen: I'm warning you, I am a lethal killing machine. It was a secret government experiment. They did stuff to me. Spooky stuff... Anal stuff. It turned me into a dangerous telekinetic. In the words of Ancient Taoist masters, Don't start none... Won't be none.

*Max: It's like giving a handgun to a six-year-old, Wade - you don't know how it's gonna end, but you're pretty sure it's gonna make the papers.

THOUGHTS: This film needed some serious help. Fortunately it came in the form of 2 characters, Cougar and Jensen. Jensen being my favorite, he reminds me of Murdock from the television show A-Team, (though not as psychotic...) And cougar, due to the fact that he is the team sniper!!

SYNOPSIS: A tale of double cross and revenge, centered upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max, a rogue C.I.A.. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

CONCLUSION: Ok folks, at this point go rent something else. Jensen is the only reason to watch the film. No, really even the action scenes are cliche at best. Go to Starbucks, get a venti triple shot and play in traffic, it will be more exciting, I promise.

MY RATING: Believe me I would have given this film a 1, yes a one. this film receives a 2 only for the fact that Jensen is hilarious.

CHICAGO SUN TIMES (EBERT) 3 1/2 OUT OF 5. "The Losers" is a classical action movie based on a comic strip. It does just enough nodding toward the graphics of drawn superheroes, and then gets that out of the way and settles down into a clean, efficient and entertaining thriller.

Erik the Viking

SETTING: Norway, the open sea, Valhala.

RATING: PG-13, FANTASY, ADVENTURE,COMEDY.

PLOT: Um plot? there was a plot? oh that plot.......um wait yeah trying to save mankind from itself...... Got it......I think.

QUOTE:Thorfinn Skullsplitter: Are you all right?
Ivar the Boneless: No, I'm not.
Thorfinn Skullsplitter: You don't need to feel bad about being sea-sick, you know.
Ivar the Boneless: How can you help feeling bad when you're sea-sick?
Thorfinn Skullsplitter: I mean many of the greatest sailors were.
Ivar the Boneless: I know. I know.
Thorfinn Skullsplitter: Olaf Tryggvason used to throw up on every single voyage... the whole time... non-stop... puke... puke... puke.
Ivar the Boneless: Look! I don't feel BAD about it. I just feel ILL.
Thorfinn Skullsplitter: He used to puke in his sleep.
Ivar the Boneless: Bastard.

THOUGHTS: I have WAY too many to write for this blog but I'll try to keep it simple....Try not to watch this film not as funny as they hoped. I actually found myself watching the movie my wife was watching. That movie starred Zoe Deschanel so it was WAY more interesting than Erik the Viking. DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM. Not that it is crude or disgusting, just...not...that...good

SYNOPSIS: the opening few scenes of the movie are actually the funniest this film gets and the subject matter of these scenes is not funny at all. Erik and his Viking buddies are pillaging a village, when Erik stumbles upon a woman alone and unsuccessfully attempts to rape her. after much ado about nothing (literally) Erik has run her through with his sword. It all goes down hill from here......blah, blah, blah. Aaaand they make it home with the bad guy dead and the world just as shitty as they left it.

CONCLUSION: there is no conclusion, you could live your whole life without it.

MY RATING: there is nothing less than zero right?

CHICAGO SUN TIMES (EBERT) ZERO STARS. Every once in a while a movie comes along that makes me feel like a human dialysis machine. The film goes into my mind, which removes its impurities, and then it evaporates into thin air.

Man on Fire

SETTING: Mexico City during the the escalated time of kidnappings within the city.

RATING: R, ACTION, CRIME, DRAMA.

PLOT: Creasy (Denzel Washington) is a down and out retired special forces living life one day at a time until Rayburn (Christopher Walken) offers him a job protecting a wealthy family in Mexico City.

QUOTE: Rayburn: A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece.

THOUGHTS: the torrential struggle between Creasy and his demons has driven him to become quite the alcoholic, mmmm Jack Daniels....... Anyway the grainy texture to the film helps put the situation into perspective as you watch the revenge and mayhem ensue.

SYNOPSIS: Creasy is told about a job available in Mexico City, being a bum alcoholic the man has few choices and takes the job. Meeting Samuel(Marc Anthony) Creasy is offered the job but must meet Samuel's wifes approval, which without must chatter she hires him on the spot to protect her and their daughter Pita (Dakota Fanning.)
Pita becomes quite attached to the severely unattached Creasy. after much bonding the unlikely pair become fast friends giving Creasy a new reason to live. Here enters the conflict of our story, as you may have guessed Pita is kidnapped. At this point Creasy becomes the assassin he has tried so hard to contain. With his reason for living has been torn from his bloody fingers Creasy leaves behind a wake of blood and chaos behind him. With the help of Rayburn, Creasy pulls together an arsenal the would make Rambo jealous. with his new found horde Creasy runs the gambit from the lower eschalon to the upper limits of the local government. here ends my Synopsis of our tale, (I don't want to give away the firework finale.)

CONCLUSION: A must see for the action seeker in your house, and yes that would be me in our house. Denzel is superb in his part and Dakota is as cute as ever even in her grungiest.

MY RATING: for an action flick i give this film a 4 out of 5 for the cinematography, plot and use of FIREPOWER!

IMDB REVIEW: 3 OUT OF 10. A substandard revenge flick made somewhat palatable only by the star power and unforced charisma of its two leads.

Citizen Kane

SETTING: The life and times of Charles Foster Kane(Orson Wells), from 1871 to his death in 1941.

RATING: PG,  DRAMA, MYSTERY.

PLOT: A conglomerate of news hounds must try and find out the meaning of Kane's last word, "Rosebud."

QUOTE: Charles Foster Kane: You know, Mr. Bernstein, if I hadn't been very rich, I might have been a really great man.
Thatcher: Don't you think you are?
Charles Foster Kane: I think I did pretty well under the circumstances.
Thatcher: What would you like to have been?
Charles Foster Kane: Everything you HATE.

THOUGHTS (CAUTION POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!) : Suffice it to say, I LOVE black and whites a long lost art that now only a handful of daring directors will dabble in (I shan't ramble on about this point.) Citizen Kane is a historic treasure of superior art. All I ever remember from what I was told about this film was Kane looking for his sled "Rosebud." Quite the contrary it is everyone else searching for "Rosebud." How ironic the ending and the reality of Kane's precious "Rosebud."

SYNOPSIS: the movie begins as a news reel showing the various successes and failures of Charles Foster Kane ending 12 minutes later with the spotlight on his death and funeral. Please do not let the sound of this discourage you, this is an amazing story of one man's struggle to be on top. Owning more newspapers than any other, Kane moves into other spheres of industry.
the newsboys after viewing the reel decide that they need the meaning to the word Rosebud either it be a woman or a pet name for his mother. One man decides to be the one to find out what it means. Through a series of interviews with those close and loved by Charles Foster Kane. By the end of the feature no one has yet to discover "Rosebud.
Charles is a hard man throughout the film but as you contemplate the fact that these folks are searching for something so simple that meant so much to this man. you begin to realize the child within Charles Foster Kane. Oh and if you want to know who or what "Rosebud is.......watch the movie.

CONCLUSION: YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS MOVIE BEFORE YOU DIE!! the feature is a wonderful representation of Orson wells the film is a must for all who mark themselves as movie buffs.

MY RATING: I rate this filom5 out of 5 for cinematography, simplistic yet complex storyline and of course Orson Wells.

T.V. GUIDE RATING 4 1/2 OUT OF 5.

Logan's Run

SETTING: a post-apocalyptic domed city in the 23rd Century.

RATING: PG, ACTION SCI-FI.

PLOT: the cliche of one man's struggle against the system. Thrown into chaos by his superior, Logan must become one of those he himself despises.

QUOTE: "Sometime in the 23rd century...the survivors of war,
overpopulation and pollution are living in a great domed
city, sealed away from the forgotten world outside.
Here in an ecologically balanced world, mankind lives only
for pleasure, freed by the servo-mechanisms which provide
everything. There's just one catch. Life must end at thirty
unless reborn in the fiery ritual of carousel."

THOUGHTS (CAUTION POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD):
Quite possibly one of the worlds most amazing Sci-Fi movies EVER. The visual effects smack of crude from our point of view yet some what state-of-the-art for 1971. As far as the cast goes there are some top notch names, such as:
Michael York
Farrah Fawcett-Majors
Richard Jordan
Jenny Agutter
Roscoe Lee Browne

SYNOPSIS: Logan 5, a Sandman living in a domed city whose occupation is to chase down and eliminate all those looking for a way out. Logan and his companion roam the city somewhat obtrusive to the respect their position allows. Being that of a Sandman not many are willing to stand in their way.
the first few scenes show Logan 5 and Francis 7 staring at Logan's new replacement Logan 6, because all Sandmen renew. As they move toward Carousel (the death of those at the age of 30) Logan and Francis are called out to catch a runner. The battle which ensues leaving the unfortunate runner bagged and tagged for the clean up crew.
Evening shows just how much our future counterparts live only for pleasure. Logan dressed in his "Jammies" peruses through a wall mounted "transporter" for the purpose of a little consensual companionship. Finding out from the woman the heart of a runner, Logan is bewildered at the fact that she would choose to run rather than face Carousel.
Logan meets later with his superior to determine the identity and belongings of the runner when he is commanded to become a runner himself. Take the name and identity of a runner and play splitsville. without anyone knowing Logan tries to enter the dragon (so to speak.) through much toil and heartache Logan makes it to the outside. Now I ain't telling you anymore due to the fact that I ain't gonna ruin it no mores.....you can Netflix or Hulu this movie now that your tantilized by what you have read.

CONCLUSION: The story line of the movie is quite a heartstring twanger, yet not one to cry to. You begin to feel the struggle that our hero endures to the end and empathize with his plight as he truly becomes the hero in our hearts and minds. YOUR LIFE WILL NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT YOU SEEING THIS FILM!!

MY RATING: I rate this film 4 out of 5 for the outstanding use of scale models, visual acuity, and storyline.

CHICAGO SUN TIMES REVIEW (EBERT)3 OUT OF 5."Logan's Run" is a vast, silly extravaganza that delivers a certain amount of fun, once it stops taking itself seriously.
